The name
Kid Blue seems to be appearing everywhere these days as he continues to hold two residencies at opposite ends of the country (
Technique in Leeds and
Chew The Fat! at The End in London), and tour worldwide. He placed himself firmly on the map of the UK dance scene with his first EP on Fat! Records
‘Hairy Sambuca’ in 2006 followed by more releases and remixes on
Lot49, Passenger and
Sinister, and looks set to inject breaks and techno clubbers alike with vigor and vivacity with his new addictive
‘Way Back / Ultimate Orange’ EP.
His reputation as being incredibly versatile with his DJ sets spans through to his own productions where he compiles every up-to-date sound and fuses them all into his own unique creations. Sparking the reaction
“Is he techno? Is he breaks? Who cares when the tunes are this good” from
DJ Mag, Kid Blue really is on top of his game.
‘Way Back’ focuses brass samples blasting over wildly bouncy synth rhythms and a solid 4/4 beat. An old school break-beat seeps in for the breakdown which makes the fat 4/4 bass drum all the more powerful when it returns. A wonderfully dark track perfected with light funky elements to suit everyone, from the ones sitting down sipping WKD through to the hardcore clubbers dancing right next to the speakers.
Gritty and dirty bassline-driven
‘Ultimate Orange’ is a euphoric gem that DJs will keep from playing until the sun is about to rise.
Kid Blue brings in an Electro-Breaks mash-up with a soothing ambience. Synth-string stabs, and eerie bleeps and sweeps scatter add a haunting finish to the pad, and the breathy vocals that float in and out (courtesy of Britney Spears!) are just the thing for this 5am track.
2008 has already seen Kid Blue go from strength to strength. He masterminded April’s huge Chew The Fat! event
'Troublestock!', not to mention creating Fat! lineups for
SpringEight, Zoo8, and Chew The Fat!’s second summer-long season at
We Love…Space in Ibiza, as well as finding time to spin tunes all over the world. And not one to take his role as a producer lightly, he is already working on his next Fat! EP which will be released in September, not to mention a remix of
“Vapour Trail” for Elite Force’s
U&A imprint, a collaboration with
Lot49 label boss
Meat Katie, and more remixes for
Sinister Recordings. For more info, go to
