THE GULF GATE PROJECT - ILLUMINATI - DUSTED BREAKS

THE GULF GATE PROJECT - ILLUMINATI - DUSTED BREAKS RECORDS (DBR031)

A broken beat, a dash of funk, and healthy dose of synthetic bass... thats the basic formula for The Gulf Gate Project. They sit in a studio for hours on end, meticulously pruning sounds and rhythms. Then, once the music has been created, they take to the stage armed with a laptop, an APC 40, an electronic drum set, and a keyboard and recreate in a live setting their studio creation. The result is a pretty dang exciting live show that really rocks the dance floor. If you ever get a chance to see the live show, don't miss out, as these guys from Florida USA are something very special in the casino canada online making!

For the remixes, Dusted "Breaks" out the big guns with a wide range of different styles from our very talented regular artists B-PHREAK, KRAYMON, REFRACTURE and WAYS & MEANS

Definition:breaks 023 – CoolBreakerZ - Knight Rider

featuring remixes by – Sylus, Mobius, & The Rumblist

Another Spanish assault breaks forth from Definition:breaks – this time CoolBreakerZ are back with another tearin heavy hitter. This time they keep the dirty bass action and lean towards the more melodic side of things. This one has been going down well with the Spanish crowds and now with 3 fresh remixes this release is properly phattened up!

First out of the blocks is a remix by Sylus, who has released huge tracks already this year on Standard Audio and Trans:verse. This remix is also in the massive bracket and definitely kicks forth with extra helpings of dirt and filth and a monstrous dub-steppy breakdown.
Next up is Southampton duo Mobius, who drop it down a notch and deliver a remix with added tech and solid beats which is squarely aimed at movin the crowds with its bouncy bassline riff. With tracks this year on Ape, Yellowfinger and Flextone we are pleased to have them on the label for sure…..
And finally a new kid on the block – The Rumblist - makes his first appearance on Definition:breaks. “To try and pin The Rumblist down to one specific genre is futile” is the statement on his website – but when he drops a breaks remix of this quality we just had to put it out there. This remix is a taste of things to come on the label from this very talented producer.

Feedback so far for this release.....

Ceos (Downbeat) - The original is a beast!! Will be dropping that one

Far Too Loud - Liking the Sylus remix a lot, some nice late night dark breakbeat vibes!

Duane Barry (Digital Sensation) - straight up nasty shit once again from the masters Def Breaks - this is a wicked release all the remixes are great but I'm gonna go with the original - it just about ripped my head off! Full support from me

Lee Martin (Dusted Breaks) - Lovin the Mobius Remix and Will Play it out!

Chris Bass Reflections - Sick release! CoolBreakerz always pull through. Loving all the mixes but the Sylus remix is the one for me.

Lightshapers - mobius remix is wicked, its the sylus remix for me on this one though. has the filth factor.

Pale Penguin (VIM) - Very-very strong package indeed! All tracks are really good, darkish, rollin and dirty! I'll go with the rather excellent MOBIUS remix......SYLUS did also awesome job. Full support!!

Elektroshok Records - THIS RELEASE IS F**K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THE ORIGINAL SONG & SYLUS REMIX!! TOP!!

What is Breakbeat

Breakbeat (sometimes breakbeats or breaks) is a term used to describe a collection of sub-genres of electronic music, usually characterized by the use of a non-straightened 4/4 drum pattern (as opposed to the steady beat of house or trance). These rhythms may be characterised by their intensive use of syncopation and polyrhythms.

History

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, hip-hop DJs (starting with Kool DJ Herc) began using several breaks (the part of a funk or jazz song in which the music "breaks" to let the rhythm section play unaccompanied) in a row to use as the rhythmic basis for hip-hop songs. Kool DJ Herc's breakbeat style was to play the same record on two turntables and play the break repeatedly by alternating between the two records (letting one play while spinning the second record back to the beginning of the break). This style was copied and improved upon by early hip hop DJs Afrika Bambaataa and Grand Wizard Theodore. This style was extremely popular in clubs and dance halls because the extended breakbeat was the perfect backdrop for breakdancers to show their skills.

In recent times, the term breakbeat has become synonymous with the many genres of breaks music which have become popular within the global dance music scene, including big beat, nu skool breaks and progressive breaks. DJs from a variety of genres, including house and techno, work breaks tracks into their sets. This may occur because the tempo of breaks tracks (ranging from 110 to 150 beats per minute) means they can be readily mixed with these genres, whereas the comparatively fast speed of jungle and drum and bass (160-180 bpm) may have restricted the utility of these subgenres to DJs playing slower-tempo music. Some artists well known for breakbeat include DJ Icey, Stanton Warriors, Deekline and Wizard, Hybrid, Huda Hudia, The Brainkiller, Paket, The Freestylers, NAPT, Pendulum, Adam Freeland, Rennie Pilgrem, The Breakfastaz, Ctrl Z, Freq Nasty and Plump DJ's.

Breakbeats are used in many hip hop, rap, jungle, and hardcore songs, and can also be heard in other music, from popular music to background music in car and jean commercials on the radio or TV.
